Luciano Spalletti: "We played well against Ukraine, we have nothing to complain about"

Italy head coach Luciano Spalletti summarised the results of the Euro 2024 qualifying match against Ukraine (2:1), which took place yesterday in Milan.

"We should be happy with the way we played this match. Because it is far from always possible to offset the opponent's attacking action. And today we gave Ukraine only two chances in the first half, and in the second half we allowed the opponent only two counterattacks. So there is nothing to criticise - our team played well.

In the last minutes Ukraine started to attack with greater forces, because a defeat with a bigger score would not change much for it, but the opponent tried to avoid defeat at any cost. To avoid such a tense end of the match for us, it was necessary to score not two but three or four goals," Spalletti was quoted as saying by the UEFA official website.
