UAF protests to UEFA over appointment of Russian referees to Women's Nations League match

The Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) has sent an official letter to UEFA asking it to consider the situation regarding the appointment of referees from the aggressor country for a match under the auspices of the European Football Union.

"It has become known from the UEFA official website that a Russian team of referees has been appointed for the Women's Nations League match between Armenia and Kazakhstan on 26 September.

As you know, on 28 February 2022, the UEFA Executive Committee decided that all Russian teams, whether national or club, would be suspended from participating in UEFA competitions until further notice. This decision has been respected and complied with by all participants in the competition for the past year and a half, and its legality has been successfully proven in CAS.

At the same time, given that no officials from Russia have been appointed to UEFA matches for a year and a half, the above decision is causing outrage in Ukraine, where the brutal war crimes of the Russian Federation are still taking place every day.

In view of this, the Ukrainian Football Association expresses its protest against the appointment of a Russian team of referees for the Women's Nations League match.

In order to adhere to the humanitarian values and justice inherent in the European football family, as well as to ensure the consistency of UEFA's peacekeeping position on the settlement of the involvement of Russian representatives in European football, we ask you to carefully consider the situation and consider the possibility of preventing representatives of a terrorist state from participating in matches under the auspices of UEFA," the UAF letter reads.
