Diakite of Lille received a yellow card on 51 minutes, which added intrigue to the game. Rennes, determined to equalise, made the first substitution in the 55th minute: D. Douet replaced I. Salah. However, in the 62nd minute Lille increased their lead when B. Diakite put the ball in the net. It seemed that the chances of success were slim and Rennes made two more substitutions, replacing E. Le Feux and B. Santamaria with L. Blaquité. Santamaria for L. Blas and F. Rieder respectively.
A. Guiri was also replaced by B. Yildirim. But "Rennes" was not going to give up. In the 74th minute L. Assignon scored the decisive goal, giving his team a glimmer of hope. Sensing an opportunity, Rennes made the last substitution, sacrificing N. Matic and releasing M. Lambourde. In the 81st minute, Lille made three substitutions: J. Yazici and I. Cavazza. Yazici and I. Cavaleiro replaced T. Santos and H. Haraldsson. In the last minutes of the match R. Cabella was replaced by G. Gudmundsson. In the 89th minute Rennes equalised thanks to a strike from I. Salah, thus confirming the determination and resilience of their team. The late goal brought jubilation from the Rennes players and fans and allowed them to salvage a point in a tense encounter. Both teams performed brilliantly, showing their skill and determination in a match that kept the fans in suspense until the final whistle. The 2-2 draw demonstrated the competitive nature of Ligue 1 and the unpredictability of football, leaving both Rennes and Lille with positive points in a hard fought match.
