On 15 September 1993, Dynamo defeated Barcelona 3-1 in the 1/16 finals of the Champions League at the Olimpiyskiy. Pavlo Shkapenko scored a goal and earned a penalty in that match, while Viktor Leonenko made a double.
"I was in the mood that the stronger the team, the better I play. For some reason, the current Dynamo is afraid to play with the giants of European football. I wasn't scared, I was curious. For some reason, everyone remembers Spartak, where I made a double and pulled Dynamo through.
But for me personally, the match against Barcelona was more memorable. When I scored a header against the Catalans, one of the defenders charged me in the face - apparently, he was trying to take the ball out. I took the shot, saw the ball in the net and ran to the bar. And just a few metres from the Blue and Gold's goal, a fan was sitting in a wheelchair. You wouldn't believe it - he suddenly got out of his wheelchair. He just jumped up! I don't understand at all how he ended up just behind the goal. I was so surprised to see his emotional impulse that I completely forgot about the goal," Leonenko said.
