The French defender came on to the pitch, replacing Vincent Le Goff in the 71st minute of the match. It was the 29-year-old's first official match after more than a two-year break. The last time Mendy played, before being suspended from Man City training due to allegations of rape or sexual harassment, was on 15 August 2021.

It will be recalled that in the summer, all charges were dropped against Mendy, after which he joined Lorient as a free agent.
