Today marks the 75th birthday of Mykhailo Fomenko, the outstanding libero of Dynamo Kyiv in the 1970s, three-time champion and two-time winner of the USSR Cup, winner of the 1975 UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup with the Kyiv team, and later Dynamo coach. UEFA Honorary Member Hryhorii Surkis congratulated the hero of the day.
"Dear Mykhailo Ivanovych!
I join all the most sincere congratulations on your glorious anniversary.
I pay tribute to one of the brightest masters of Kyiv and Ukrainian football, an exemplary defender of the unsurpassed Dynamo team of the 1970s, and later a great coach who won a ticket to EURO 2016 for our country.
Your trophies, awards and strong-willed life achievements speak for themselves, but the undeniable, sincere love of millions of fans for you is perhaps even more eloquent. Obviously, this undying respect of the stands is the most precious reward, along with the gold and crystal of the most prestigious cups you have won.
Your consistent civic stance during the extremely difficult period of Russia's military aggression against our country, which has been going on for many years, is equally admirable. So, first of all, I wish you, dear jubilee, a speedy victory for Ukraine in this cruel war.
And after that - peace, harmony, health, prosperity and God's grace!
Yours sincerely,
Grigory SURKIS
