Loftus-Cheek hit the back of the net. In the 67th minute, Cagliari made two substitutions, replacing A. Petanha and E. Shomurodov. Shomurodov, who brought new energy into the attack. To maintain the advantage, Milan made two more substitutions in the 69th minute, replacing K. Pulisic and S. Chukwueze with L. Chukwueze. Chukwueze for L. Romero and R. Leao respectively. In the 78th minute, Cagliari's G. Oristanio received a yellow card, which signalled the growing frustration in the team. In the final stages of the match, both teams made substitutions to strengthen their positions. In the 82nd minute, Cagliari replaced G. Zappa with A. Di Pardo, Milan replaced T. Hernandez with D. Bartesaghi, and in the 84th minute Cagliari released A. Makumba instead of A. Deiola. Despite Cagliari's late efforts, AC Milan stood firm and won a deserved victory.
