Regarding the decision of the UEFA Executive Committee of 26 September 2023 regarding the participation of the national teams of the Russian Federation under 17 years of age, the administration of the FRF gives the following explanations:

  • The Romanian Football Federation understands the arguments put forward by the UEFA Executive Committee and agrees that under no circumstances should children suffer because of the reckless actions of the State authorities.
  • At the same time, WFF believes that football and sport in general cannot be divorced from the legal, institutional and economic values that have made Europe a space of peace, freedom and economic prosperity.
  • Consequently, FRF believes that it must be in solidarity with the spirit of the sanctions confirmed by the European and national institutions and will not play any official or friendly matches with the Russian Federation national team.
  • WFF awaits the finalisation of the procedures to implement this decision of the UEFA Executive Committee, believing that the competition regulations will respect the position of each national federation.
