Yevhen Levchenko: "The topic of Slot and Shakhtar is closed"

Former Ukraine midfielder and president of the Dutch Footballers' Union Yevhen Levchenko commented for TaToTake on rumours about a potential coaching change at Shakhtar.

Yevhen Levchenko

- You have experience of communicating with Arne Slot. Do you believe that he can agree to the Ukrainian champion's offer?

- I don't know who and why this is being spread, but I think this topic is closed. First of all, Feyenoord will not let their head coach go so easily. They take him as seriously as possible: the team plays great football, and Slot himself has a good relationship with the fans and players.

Secondly, judging by my communication with Arne, with all due respect, he will not want to join Shakhtar - especially now that there is a war in our country. Yes, he respects his family and children, but money is not in the first place for him. He believes that if it makes sense to move, it should be to a stronger league. Despite the fact that in May he had an offer from Tottenham, he extended his contract at home because he wanted to work at Feyenoord.

- How adequate are the talks about replacing Patrick van Leeuwen a few months after he unexpectedly replaced Igor Jovetic?

- At the moment, it will be a very incomprehensible decision for me. And I hope that Shakhtar will not do it. Patrick has a certain philosophy that he is trying to instil in young players. If there is no progress on the course, it's another matter. But now he needs time, discipline and close contact with the players. I believe that the matches in the European Cups will be an indicator of the effectiveness of his work.
