UEFA Vice-President Zbigniew Boniek commented on the presence of Russian Football Union President Alexander Dyukov in the governing structures of the union.
"Very often I get messages on social media asking me why a representative of the Russian Federation is a member of the UEFA Executive Committee. He is not there because I like it. In UEFA, if you have been elected to the governing body through democratic voting, no one has the right to expel you.
Someone can be suspended if two-thirds of the Executive Committee agree. The suspension is valid until the Congress, where they vote on whether to expel the offender. Then there must be 50.1% of those who agree.
I don't think most people would be in favour of such a petition. Unfortunately, not everyone thinks like us, and not everyone thinks like me. If Russia were expelled from UEFA, the procedure would be different. In Europe, different people think differently. It's not that simple. This is not a whim," Bonek said.
