"D.C. United announced on its official website that team mentor Wayne Rooney is leaving his post.
"We have spoken to Wayne and agreed that it is best for us to part ways. It's a mutual agreement," club CEO Jason Levine said.
"It's the right time to do it. Did everything possible to take the club to the playoffs," said Rooney.
Note that D.C. United failed to make the MLS playoffs this season. Rooney led the team since July 2022.
