Pep Guardiola on Arteta copying him: "Absolutely not. I dress better."

Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has denied the suggestion that Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta is a mini-copy of him.

Josep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta

"No, not in any way. I dress better. I am more elegant. My wife always gives me perfect outfits. I see him as having zero characteristics from me. His father and mother are different. All of Mikel's success belongs to him and his people at Arsenal. It's all down to them, not me.

People think he has learnt a lot from me, but I have learnt a lot from him too. I don't usually defend my colleagues because everyone can defend themselves. We all respect each other, but we're not friends.

But Mikel is an exception, he's very different. We worked together for two or three years with great success. I said many times that I learnt a lot from him. And I was convinced he would be the right man for Arsenal because I knew him at City, the way he communicated with the players, his ideas. I was convinced of that.

He is proof that when a club believes in something, when the board and the sporting director decide how they want to want to play and hold the coach to play that way and sign the right players, it works. Sometimes you see it right away and sometimes you need time.

It happens when the people above you really believe in you, have patience and look at training and how things develop rather than just relying on results.

If clubs only look at results, that's the first step to falling down. You have to rely on what the manager does, not results. Results will always be the consequence.

"Arsenal have put their trust in him and the results are there. At the end of the day they have had a manager for years. He knows the club. He loves the club. You can't do better than that," Guardiola said.

Прекрасная характеристика от мэтра коллеге-противнику, который некоторое время работал в Манчестер Сити помощником Гвардиолы.
