In 2019, the footballer's dog, Luchi, was stolen from his home in Los Angeles. Daniel announced a $30,000 reward for the dog's discovery. Soon after, the pit bull was found by Foster Washington, who posted a photo with the dog on social media, but Sturridge refused to pay the man's reward, after which he filed a lawsuit.

In 2021, a Los Angeles court upheld Washington's claim and ordered Sturridge to pay the reward. After the footballer failed to appear at a regular hearing, the court issued a warrant for his arrest and delivery to court.
