Volodymyr Zverov, the editor-in-chief of Profutbol Digital, has revealed the details of Shakhtar U-19 midfielder Oleksandr Rosputko's escape after the 2-1 UEFA Youth League Group Stage 2 match against Antwerp.
"The dude went to the dressing room, took off his Shakhtar tracksuit, changed into civilian clothes and just took off.
He disconnected his phones, logged out and deleted himself from all social media. When everyone was leaving, they realised that he had disappeared, but there was no contact with him. No one was going to wait and look for him, so they flew without him.
Rosputko got in touch with Shakhtar representatives some time after the team arrived in Ukraine. He spoke to Shakhtar's representatives, who told him clearly: "What are you doing?".
It had already become clear that he had flown to Russia in transit through Istanbul. Shakhtar representatives called him. At some point, the guy started to realise what he had done," Zverov said.
