Back in August, Napoli reached a verbal agreement on a new contract with Victor Osimhen, but the de facto agreement has not been renewed. According to Italian journalist Walter Di Maggio, this is due to the fact that Liverpool have joined the fight for the player:
"The parties had already agreed to extend the contract, but Osimhen and his agent Calenda did not keep their word. What happened? Another club, from the APL, got involved. I'm talking about Liverpool.
There have been frequent contacts, but now I have learnt something new: an agreement has been reached. It is an agreement between the Reds and the player, Napoli is not involved. I hope Napoli can keep Osimhen at least until June, but we can't be sure" - Di Maggio.
