Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali, who was previously questioned by the police over illegal betting, may be out of football for a long time.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian Football Federation will soon make a decision on Tonali's illegal betting case. The midfielder pleaded guilty in the hope that it would reduce his suspension. Tonali is expected to be banned for 10 or 12 months.
Thus, even if the Italian national team qualifies for Euro 2024, Tonali will miss the upcoming tournament, which will take place in June-July next year in Germany.
It will be recalled that the Italians are the main competitors of the Ukrainian national team in the fight for second place in the group, which will qualify for the European Championship. The decisive match will take place on 20 November in Leverkusen.
