An exciting football match between Dinamo Zagreb and Plzeň took place recently at the Maksimir Stadium. The first half of the match ended goalless, but by no means boring. Both teams showed solid defence, not allowing their opponents to create many chances. However, the referees did not give boredom: in the 11th minute Dinamo Zagreb player J. Misic received a yellow card. Misic, and in the 12th minute - Pilsen's L. Kalvac. The intensity of the game became evident when M. Emreli of Dinamo Zagreb received a yellow card in the 19th minute.
The physicality of the match continued in the second half when D. Peric (Dinamo Zagreb) was sent off in the 53rd minute. In the course of the game the coaches made some strategic changes. Dinamo Zagreb made a substitution in the 56th minute: J. Drmic came on instead of M. Emreli. Drmic was replaced by J. Drmic and D. Spikic by M. Bernauer. These substitutions should have given the team new strength and strengthened the attack. In the 69th minute, a penalty was awarded against Pilsen, which provided an excellent opportunity to break the deadlock. T. Chori stepped into the penalty position and, showing composure, headed the ball into the Dinamo Zagreb goal. In the 73rd minute Dinamo Zagreb made another substitution: S. Moharrami replaced T. Kaneko, and M. Bulat replaced S. Kulenovic. The team coach hoped that these changes would turn the game in their favour and help to level the score. Pilsen also made changes in the line-up, releasing M. Vydra instead of T. Chory in the 77th minute. However, the game continued to be tense and the tension was high. In the 82nd minute, J. Kopić of Plzeň received a yellow card. Kopić from the Plzeň team, which added drama to the course of the match. In the final stage of the match, Pilsen made another substitution in the 85th minute. E. Jirka replaced P. Buca and Kadu came on in place of L. Holik. At the end of time Pilsen made the last substitution, replacing L. Hejda with P. Sulc. When the final whistle blew, Pilsen won 1-0. Both teams showed decent play, but in the end it was Pilsen's penalty that was decisive. The match between Dinamo Zagreb and Pilsen will be remembered for its strong physicality, the high number of yellow cards and the decisive penalty shootout. It was an exciting encounter in the UEFA Europa League and demonstrated the competitiveness of both teams.
