The changes seemed to have an immediate impact, with Moukoko equalising in the 54th minute and Frankfurt responding in the 61st minute by replacing Buta with J. Dean Ebimbe. However, Dortmund continued to press and in the 82nd minute they took the lead thanks to J. Brandt's goal. At the end of time Frankfurt showed determination and equalised again in the 68th minute with a goal scored by F. Chaibi. In an attempt to seize the advantage, both teams made another substitution: on 65 minutes Dortmund introduced M. Reus into the game, and on 70 minutes N. Süle replaced M. Hummels. Frankfurt made their final change in the 73rd minute, bringing on A. Knauff in place of M. Goetze. The match culminated when Dortmund's E. Terzic received a yellow card in the 90th minute. Despite all the efforts of both teams in the remaining minutes, no goals were scored and the match ended in a tense 3-3 draw.
