Former Shakhtar, Dnipro and Ukraine international Artem Fedetskyi commented on Lionel Messi being awarded the Ballon d'Or following the 2022/23 season.
"This year's Ballon d'Or should have gone to Holland. The man has won everything - the Champions League, the Premier League, the Cup. He became the top scorer. Yes, Messi won the World Cup, but he didn't shine at PSG, and we don't take Inter Miami into account.
Winning the World Cup is an achievement, but not so great compared to Holland to give the Ballon d'Or. If the Ballon d'Or is only awarded because of the World Cup, then why are achievements in club competitions? To get the Müller Trophy as the top scorer? I think this is wrong.
Holland 100% should have won the Ballon d'Or this year. The other players are not even close to him," Ukrainian Football quoted Fedetsky as saying.
