Last Sunday, Shakhtar Donetsk travelled to the nominally home match of the fourth round of the Champions League group stage against Spanish Barcelona, which will be held in Hamburg due to the war.
According to the plan, the Pitmen were supposed to first travel by bus from Lviv to Rzeszów in Poland, from where they would take a charter flight to Hamburg. However, this route of the Donetsk team had to be changed due to a terrorist attack at the airport of this German city.
On Saturday evening, an unknown man managed to break into the Hamburg airport in his car, after which he fired twice into the air and threw two Molotov cocktails. The man arrived with a hostage, who turned out to be his daughter.
As a result of this situation, Hamburg airport was of course closed and stopped accepting flights. On Sunday, negotiations with the terrorist were still ongoing, so Shakhtar had to change their plans. As a result, the team flew from Rzeszów to Lübeck, and from there they travelled by bus to Hamburg.
