Former Shakhtar player Igor Leonov has commented on the result of the Pitmen's match against Barcelona (1-0) in round 4 of the Champions League group stage to the UPL TV channel.
- Shakhtar chose the right tactics, blocked off the areas, did not let those players, who could be expected to be sharp, run around. We neutralised Lewandowski. In defence we played very well and competently, everyone backed each other up, that's the most important thing. I think Barcelona travelled with the idea that they would easily win in full-field, but this result is Shakhtar's achievement. The lads did well, there is nothing to say.
- The Pitmen scored a magnificent goal.
- Sudakov gave a magnificent pre-goal. From childhood, it was noticeable that he would grow - he is very determined and hardworking. He has reading of the game, goal sense, ability to pass, head work - everything is at a high level. Constantly does a lot of work in the position he occupies. He should grow up to be a good footballer. But, I think, he should be sold.
- Who of the players can be noted?
- Rakitskiy and Stepanenko were impenetrable for the Catalans. They played well on experience, on skill. And also Sudakov stood out very much.
- What do you think about Barcelona?
- In my opinion, the current Barça is not the same as it was before, during Guardiola's time. But they themselves, apparently, think that they are not worse. They have good youth, they have a good future, but the last games - with Real Madrid, Sociedad and Shakhtar - showed everything.
- What tournament prospects are open for the Pitmen?
- Of course, we need to fight for the Champions League play-offs. Do you remember Shakhtar's group with Chelsea and Juventus back in Donetsk? Back then, many people said: "Let's take the third place". It was my 45th birthday, the president congratulated me and I told him that the team would make it out of the group. Then we could even take first place and not go to Barcelona in 1/8. Now we need to beat "Antwerp" and there will be a head-to-head confrontation with "Porto". It is important not to lose momentum.
