Mircea Lucescu: "Romania national team? There is no point. It is not normal!"

Former Dynamo Kyiv head coach Mircea Lucescu has explained why he is not going to accept the offer to lead the Romanian national team, if such an offer comes.

"A new generation of coaches has grown up in Romania. They are young specialists, and they are coaches with clear abilities and their own vision of football. And with burning eyes. They are the ones who should take on such a responsibility as working with the Romanian national team.

We can not go back to the same thing again and again. It's not normal! Life goes on. It makes no sense for me to coach the Romanian national team. I'm 78 years old, soon to be 79. Competing with the new generation of coaches is out of the question. They themselves must start working at this level.

But you can not rely solely on young coaches. Consider Gheorghe Hadji. He has accumulated so much experience that I am sure he is ready to lead the Romanian national team now.

As for me, I will repeat what I have already said: at best I can only be an adviser. I can fulfil approximately the same role that Emeric Vogl had at the 1970 World Cup," Fanatik quoted Lucescu as saying.
