The Ukraine national team continues to fight for direct access to the finals of Euro 2024. To do so, it needs to finish first or second in its qualifying group for the European Championship. However, in case of failure, the "blue-and-yellow" team may have a "reserve" chance to qualify for the European Championship.
Recall, three tickets to the final part of Euro-2024 will be played in the play-offs of the Nations League of the last played season, which will be attended by 12 teams - the four best teams from divisions A, B, C of the tournament.
The Ukraine national team finished sixth in Division B at the end of the last Nations League, with the top four - Israel, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Scotland - earning a trip to the Euro 2024 play-offs.
However, Scotland guaranteed themselves a direct entry to Euro 2024 and their place in the play-offs was taken by Finland, the fifth team in Division B of the Nations League. Thus, in order for the Ukrainian national team to be in the coveted top four, it is necessary that a direct ticket to Euro 2024 was obtained by at least one of the following teams: Israel, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Finland. And the first chance for this to happen will be today.
The Euro-2024 qualifying match between Montenegro and Lithuania (Group G) could be decisive in the context of Ukraine's prospects. If the hosts fail to win in this match, they will guarantee the Serbian national team a final place in the group no lower than the second, and with it a direct entry to the European Championship. And then the four representatives of Division B of the Nations League for participation in the play-offs of the Euro 2024 selection will look like this: Israel, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Finland, Ukraine.
