Michael Owen on the punishment for Everton: "Financial fair play protects elite clubs"

Former Liverpool and Real Madrid striker Michael Owen has criticised the financial fair play (FFP) after Everton were deducted points.

"Whether Everton deserved to be deducted points or not is debatable, but I've never liked the FFP. Surely there is a better way to protect the future of clubs? The FFP protects the elite clubs and makes it impossible for those who are catching up to compete," Owen wrote on his X social media page.

Earlier, Everton received a 10-point penalty for violating the FFP.
