"I'm very proud of what we achieved as a team in 2023 - from the historic victory in Italy to qualifying for the Euros as group winners. On a personal level, being the national team's top scorer means it was a year on the international stage that I will always remember. I can't wait for 2024 in an England shirt and the Euros," the 30-year-old wrote on his Instagram page.

It was a truly historic year for England. They defeated Italy for the first time since 1977 on their home turf and were also stronger than the Azzurri away from home, which was their first victory on the Apennine Peninsula in official matches. Kane scored in both matches and, thanks to his goal in Naples, became England's top scorer, breaking Wayne Rooney's previous record of 53 goals.
