Former Niva Ternopil defender Ihor Biskup shared his memories of the bonuses the team received in the 1990s for victories over the giants of Ukrainian football.
"A thousand dollars. Each player got exactly a thousand. Both for the victory over Kyiv and for the victory over Shakhtar we received the same amount of bonuses. And they gave it in cash. Immediately the day after the game.
In the 90s, it was good money, because the monthly salary at Niva was one hundred and fifty dollars, in the days of Buryak. Bonuses were also around $150, no more.
It was in the 90s that I started building a house. So, a thousand dollars for the victory over Dynamo contributed to the faster construction of my house. Thanks to the victories over Dynamo and Shakhtar, I built a beautiful house. I remember Yura Nikitenko, our goalkeeper, used to joke before matches against Kyiv or Donetsk: "Well, what are we earning today? Bricks or panels?" Biskup said in an interview withUkrainian Football.
