The mayor of Dnipro city, Boris Filatov, said that he was indifferent to football and the successes of the Dnipro-1 team, and that the city would not finance football teams from the municipal budget, so the revival of FC Dnipro should not be expected.
- This year, right in November, is the 40th anniversary of the first and last "gold" of Dnipro football club in the USSR championship? Did I make a discovery for you or did you know?
- It's a discovery for me. I will explain. I may not be understood in our Dnipro, but I am absolutely indifferent to football. As a sport, as a leisure time - it's great. But, besides the fact that I have an absolutely cold attitude to sport, as a mayor I am also absolutely cool to the problems of the football club. Many people appealed to me in a certain period: it is necessary to revive the club as a municipal entity. Firstly, it is impossible. Secondly, I still believe that this club history is a toy for the rich. Therefore, the city can not pull this history on itself. There were different initiatives. But, unfortunately, as they say, "dead is dead". Although the history of the club is really glorious.
- Well, not quite dead. The current Dnipro-1 is in first place in the Ukrainian Premier League. And if we fantasise that it will stay there, it will bring the European Champions League to peaceful Dnipro. This is a great holiday for the city. That is why I am no longer speaking as a fan, but, conditionally speaking, I am rooting for the city to fit into the European context.
- I am not making such exotic and far-reaching plans now. We would like, as in that fairy tale, "to stand the night and hold out the day". That is why we are now dealing with short-term issues. There are certainly no issues related to the football club in my schedule.
