Vyacheslav Shevchuk, a candidate for the head of the Rivne Football Association, gave a comment to UV in which he responded to Vitaliy Kvartsianyi's accusations.
Vyacheslav Shevchuk- Viacheslav, have you read Vitaliy Kvartsianyi's interview where he mentioned you and said that you had discouraged him from running for the head of the Volyn Football Association?
- It's a complete lie, gossip and slander from Kvartsianyi's grandfather. I'll tell you how it really happened. My good friend Viktor Matsyuk put forward his candidacy for the election to the Volyn Association.
He asked me for my advice, and I replied: "It's the right thing to do, you're a football man, but before you run for office, let's meet Kvartsyan. He's a local, we have a good relationship, it will be on the same page."
- Did you meet?
- A couple of months ago, I was in Lutsk and told Viktor: "Call Kvartsianyi". He called him, and he immediately responded: "Let's meet. No problem". We sat in a cafe, recalled football moments, because Matsyuk and I used to play under Kvartsyanyi.
Then Viktor asked Kvartsianyi: "I want to run for the head of the Volyn Association. What do you think of that? I don't want you to think that this is happening behind your back." Kvartsianyi immediately shed a tear and said: "I will not be allowed to play football then".
We calmed him down and were surprised at his reaction. Viktor took him home, and Kvartsianyi told him: "Withdraw your candidacy. It would be the decent thing to do."
Matsyuk then came to me, and I told him: "You are an adult, do as you see fit, but know that I will support you." I have never told Kvartsianyi to withdraw his candidacy, and I have never waged any campaign against him! It was quite the opposite.
After our conversation, Kvartsianyi immediately called Luzhnyi and began to complain that Shevchuk was not supporting him. But I am a free man and I have the right to choose. I told him everything directly, and Kvartsianyi is now taking it upon himself to throw mud at me. There was a big scandal at a meeting of the Volyn Association.
- What was it?
- Former Ukrainian national team players Fedetskyi and Mykhalyk were against Kvartsianyi. They were categorical because Matsyuk was not allowed to run in the elections.
Kvartsianyi has done a lot for Volyn football, but he is already 70 years old, so let the young people develop the sport. As a result, Matsyuk was not even allowed to participate in the elections, all the delegates had agreed on this in advance. I realised that the elections in the association are a big corruption.
I have spoken to many people in Volyn and I can say that almost no one supports Kvartsianyi and does not want to work with him. Why? You have to ask the locals.
- Kvartsyanyi said that it was thanks to him that you got into the youth national team. Is it true?
- I found it funny to read that Kvartsianyi got me into the national team and that I was fed by Luzhnyi. I just talked to Luzhny about it, we both laughed, I told him: "Oleg Romanovich, thank you for still feeding me". I live next door to Luzhny, our private houses in Kyiv are on the same street.
Kvartsianyi says that among other mentors of the youth he had an agreement with Buznik, but he was never my coach.
