Carragher: Rice can be for Arsenal what van Dijk was for Liverpool

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that Declan Rice can turn Arsenal from a title contender into an EPL winner.

"Watching Rice play, he reminds me of when I was in the Liverpool academy. We were always told to be quicker with the ball, passing it to our teammates' feet. Rice does that perfectly. It sets the tone for everything else.

It was only a matter of time before Steven Gerrard became Liverpool captain. For me, it seems inevitable that Rice will one day get the Arsenal captain's armband. Probably the same will happen in the England national team, although there he will compete with Bellingham to one day replace Kane as captain.

For Arsenal, Rice's move looked ridiculous, given the £105 million price tag. I believe we will be talking about him as a great Arsenal player in seven or eight years' time. In the end, he could be to Arsenal what Virgil van Dijk was to Liverpool. Van Dijk cost £75 million, but after everything he achieved at Anfield, this transfer is rightly considered a bargain," the Liverpool Echo quoted Carragher as saying.
