The second half started with both teams trying to take control of the game. However, Roma suffered a setback in the 64th minute when N. Zalewski received a second yellow card, which led to a red card and left the hosts ten men on the pitch. Fiorentina also had one player suspended as G. Ikone received a yellow card for the same incident. Encouraged by the numerical advantage, Fiorentina went forward and equalised in the 66th minute.
L. Martinez Quarta showed great composure in the penalty area and shot past the Roma goalkeeper, levelling the score. Having changed direction, Fiorentina began to control the match. In the 72nd minute they made their first substitution, replacing N. The game became more and more intense, and in the 75th minute K. Biraghi received a yellow card for breaking the rules. In the final minutes of the match both teams made another change: in the 78th minute G. Bonaventura replaced R. Sottila for Fiorentina, and in the 81st minute M. Kayode came on in place of M. Lopez. The tension of the game only grew, and in the 85th minute Roma made a third substitution, bringing in L. Pellegrini instead of E. Bonaventura. Pellegrini instead of E. Bove. However, in the 86th minute A. Duncan received a yellow card. In the final minutes of the match, emotions ran high, and in the 87th minute R. Lukaku received a second yellow card, leaving Roma with nine men. In the 90th minute, D. Llorente also went into the referee's book for a foul. Despite the late drama, neither team was able to get the winning goal and the match ended in a 1-1 draw. As a result, Roma and Fiorentina took one point each, although Roma will be upset that they led at half-time and were forced to finish the match in nine men. Reflecting on the match, both teams will realise that there is room to move on. Roma need to address their discipline issues and find a way to hold onto the lead, while Fiorentina need to build on their late equaliser and carry that momentum into the next match. Serie A fans can certainly expect more excitement from these two teams as the season progresses.
