Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reacts to the beating of the chief referee of the Ankaragücü-Rizespor match

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has responded to the beating of Halil Umut Meler, the chief referee of the Turkish Super League match between Ankaragücü and Rizespor.

"I condemn the attack on referee Halil Umut Meler after the Ankaragücü-Rizespor match that took place tonight and wish him a speedy recovery. Sport means peace and brotherhood. Sport is incompatible with violence. We will never allow violence to take place in Turkish sport," Erdogan said on his official social media pages.
