Renowned journalist Roberto Morales summarised the performance of Luhansk Zorya in the European cups this season, and also told what he expects from today's match of this team in the final round of the group stage of the Conference League of the tournament with Icelandic Breidablik, which for the Luhansk side no longer has tournament significance.
"Today in Lublin, the Luhansk club will say goodbye to the European cups and, apparently, for a long time. Zorya's path began back in the Europa League, where against Slavia Prague almost until the end of the second match there were hopes for a positive result.
Zorya's performance in the UEFA Conference League group started positively. Then, under Valeriy Krivenov's leadership, four points were won in the two starting rounds, including a victory over Breidablik. The match at the arena with the beautiful name "Laugardalsvollur" is not very desirable to remember, because its contents certainly did not bring joy, unlike the result. Igor Gorbach's goal was the best episode of Zorya's European campaign.
By the way, it was after the defeat in the Conference League that Kriventsov left his post (also the match in Lublin, 1-3 against Maccabi Tel Aviv). To beat Breidablik now would not be super honourable, but at least some major note at the end of the 2023 playing year.
The Icelanders may not be in their optimum tone right now. They finished playing in the national championship back in early October and sporadic appearances in the Conference League can't give them an optimal playing load," Morales said.
