Domestic sports media are spreading information that UAF First Vice President Vadym Kostyuchenko is planning to run for president of the Ukrainian Football Association. As a reminder, the UAF Congress is due to take place on 25 January 2024, with the election of the association's president on the agenda.
"Let's set the record straight: according to the UAF's charter, only permanent members - 25 regional associations, as well as the UPL and PFL - have the right to nominate candidates for election to the UAF presidency," Vadym Kostyuchenko told the UAF press service. "No one - neither the candidates themselves, nor public authorities, nor any other organisations - has this right and opportunity. This right, I repeat, is exclusively for UAF members.
As for me personally. According to the decision of the UAF Executive Committee, I must ensure the preparation and holding of the extraordinary congress in accordance with the statutory documents of the UAF, UEFA and FIFA. I had no plans to participate in the UAF presidential election, and I was not approached with such a proposal by those UAF members who have the right to nominate candidates for this position.
As for the current situation, I have information that 23 organisations have already held meetings of their governing bodies, where they voted in favour of Andriy Shevchenko as a candidate for the UAF president. We are currently waiting for the UAF to send us the originals confirming such decisions for official registration."
