John McGinn: "Aston Villa really wanted to go top"

Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn commented on the draw in the Premier League match on Matchday 18 against Sheffield United.

"It wasn't our best match, that's for sure. "Sheffield United did a better job of executing their game plan than we did. We didn't create enough chances and we definitely need to improve if teams play against us again in a similar style.

Yes, we are disappointed that we couldn't come out on top, but we need to put it in perspective. We were playing well at home and at some point it had to end. The fact that it is perceived as a defeat shows a change in mentality. We wanted to win, even at the end of the match we put pressure.

The cancelled goal? I think it was a bit harsh. The goalkeepers are protected, and I'm not sure what the rules are at different stages of the game. It's the job of the referees. Sometimes something is in your favour and sometimes against you. The last time we played Sheffield United here, the goalkeeper took the ball over the line," said John McGinn.
