The authoritative Belgian edition Voetbalnieuws in the last days of 2023 compiled its version of the symbolic team of 11 failed transfers of clubs in the elite division of Belgium. In this list there were two players, who recently took to the field in Dynamo Kyiv.
Sergey SidorchukThe first of them is Westerlo midfielder Serhiy Sidorchuk, who moved to this club from Dynamo in the first days of September. Since then, the 32-year-old has played 14 matches for his new club, was always in the starting lineup, almost always played without substitutions and even scored a goal. Nevertheless, Sidorchuk's transfer was included in the list of failures of the Belgian top league.
"Shortly before the closure of the summer transfer window, Westerlo proudly presented Sidorchuk as a newcomer to the team. Since then, this player with 60-match experience for the Ukrainian national team has been consistently in the starting line-up, but has also consistently shown few signs of long-awaited stability. It's as if he can't start his engine," the publication explained its choice.
If the presence of Sidorchuk in this list can be considered quite unexpected and at least controversial, the appearance of Dynamo Kyiv midfielder Justin Lonwijk, who is on loan at Anderlecht, in the list of transfer failures looks much more natural. The 24-year-old Dutchman has only made three substitute appearances, totalling 39 minutes on the pitch.
"Anderlecht" took as many as 12 newcomers in the summer, and some of these acquisitions were almost doomed to failure. Lonewijk's hire is one of them. With just over half an hour of game time stretched across three substitute appearances, this midfielder hasn't even become a footnote in the club's history," writes Voetbalnieuws.
