Ex-footballer of London Arsenal Paul Merson, assessing the prospects of his former team in the current season, criticised its left-back Ukrainian Oleksandr Zinchenko.
- "Arsenal is a different team now. It learnt a lot last season, and largely due to the potential of Declan Rice has reached a new level.
I think Arsenal will continue to progress. And it is capable of becoming the champion of England this season. But the problem of this team is its left-back, Oleksandr Zinchenko. In the match against Liverpool (1:1), he showed a frankly bad game in defence.
Zinchenko is my main concern when I reflect on the current Arsenal. I think he is only suited for matches against teams that play purely from defence, and where Arsenal dominate. But Zinchenko is not good for the leading teams.
Arsenal have games against West Ham, Fulham, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest ahead of them. In these games we need to take maximum points. If the team doesn't do that, then they have no right to win the Premier League," Merson told Sky Sports.
