Polissia defenderBorys Krushynskyi spoke about his performance last autumn and his expectations for the spring part of the season.
- My move to Polissia might have seemed strange to some. After all, I was a leading player of Lviv, a UPL team, and I was invited to a first-league club. My father had the last word. He apparently felt that the "townspeople" could not escape the sad fate, and "Polissia" did not hide their ambitious plans, so he recommended that I change my "registration" to Zhytomyr. I listened and signed a contract until 31 December 2027.
- The fact that you were offered such a long contract shows that Polissia believes in you and counts on you.
- It's a sin to complain. The team welcomed me very well. At first, my fellow countryman, goalkeeper Oleh Kudryk, helped me a lot with advice.
- What position do you feel more comfortable in: at Lviv you started in the middle of the pitch, then played in defence, and again in the midfield. You are also used in the same role by the manager of Polissia Yurii Kalytvintsev.
- I was at the junior level and at first in Lviv I played in the midfield. When Anatolii Bezsmertnyi took over the team, he transferred me to the centre of defence, believing that I would be of most use there. When Oleh Dulub took over Lviv, he returned me to the midfield, where I like it best. There are much more plays here, you need to have time to both disrupt the opponent's attacks and play along with your partners. But the main thing is that I have the opportunity to hit the opposition's goal from a long distance.
- Your teammate Andrii Hitchenko told me that you have a very strong shot.
- But, unfortunately, it is not yet accurate. I pay a lot of attention to correcting my aim now. I am not satisfied with the fact that last autumn I managed to upset the opposition goalkeeper only once.
- However, it happened in a match against Dynamo Kyiv, where Polissya won a sensational 3-2 victory .
- I believe that we deserved to win with our courage, perseverance, and cohesion. I think it was my best game in the first part of the season.
- It was striking that Polissia has a very good team microclimate. Who can be called a locker room man at Polissia?
- Denys Boyko and Artem Kozak, who know how to find the right words at the right time.
- And who at Polissia is responsible for training the midfielders?
- Volodymyr Knysh. We often get advice from our head coach Yurii Kalytyntsev, who was a strong midfielder in his time.
- Did he have a conversation with you before he went on holiday about what he expected from you in the spring?
- No, but each of us received individual tasks on what to work on to make it easier to go through the tightening period in January next year.
- You took part in all 17 calendar matches of Polissia in the UPL, what can you already add to your assets, what else do you need to work on?
- I'll answer this way: I'm not going to rest on my laurels, especially since there are still enough shortcomings in my game.
- Then finally: what do you expect from the new year?
- First of all, I hope that this damn war ends with our victory as soon as possible. As for football, the Polissia club management has ambitious plans to play in both the UPL and the Ukrainian Cup. The competition is expected to be very fierce, but we will make every effort to prove that our victories last autumn were not accidental.
