"Benfica announced on its official website the acquisition of centre forward Marcos Leonardo from Santos.
The 20-year-old Brazilian signed a contract with the Portuguese club until the summer of 2029. According to Fabrizio Romano, the transfer cost the Eagles €18 million plus bonuses.
In addition to Benfica, Arsenal, Manchester United, Newcastle, Roma and Real Madrid were interested in Marcos Leonardo's services.
Last season, Leonardo scored 13 goals and provided two assists in 31 matches of the Brazilian Serie A. Following the season, Santos dropped to the second division of Brazilian football for the first time in its history.
