The famous Dynamo Kyiv defender Stefan Reszko has expressed his opinion on the passing away of the legendary German footballer Franz Beckenbauer, who passed away on 7 January at the 79th year of life. Recall, Reszko opposed Beckenbauer and his Bayern in the legendary match for the UEFA Super Cup-1975, in which Dynamo won the honourable trophy on the sum of two meetings (0:1, 2:0).
"He was a unique, versatile footballer who could play well both in attack and defence. Possessed good technique, very good vision of the field, could feel the position. Always, at the slightest opportunity he was connected to the attack, ready to help.
He had great intelligence and intellectuality, always played at the expense of class, not at the expense of running. This is always felt, especially when playing against such a player, in one bundle with Gerd Muller, they were a formidable force. His nickname "Kaiser Franz" he received entirely deservedly and regularly confirmed it.
Did Beckenbauer after the end of his career, as Lobanovsky said, to kill in himself a footballer? Definitely, his achievements as a coach and as a functionary speak for themselves. At the expense of what he was able to do it? He had a very great authority and, I repeat, great intelligence and intellectuality, he was never involved in scandals related to the violation of the regime, he was the captain of Bayern, the German national team, any doors were opened in front of him, he solved all the issues around both the club and the national team. Plus, being an intelligent, judicious person, he analysed and revised his attitude to the players, he knew how to find an approach to them," Reszko said.
