Officially, Anatolii Trubin, the goalkeeper of the Ukrainian national team and Portuguese Benfica, started the 2023/2024 season at Shakhtar Donetsk.
However, he did not play a single match for the Ukrainian team, so we can fully appreciate his adventures in Lisbon.
And here we can say with full confidence that the 22-year-old Ukrainian coped with the difficult situation one hundred per cent. The coach did not immediately entrust Trubin with a place in goal. Roger Schmidt gave Trubin some time to adapt to the new team, league and country, and only then did he make a bet on Anatoliy. Therefore, the start date of Trubin's career with the Eagles can be considered 16 September 2023. Since then, the goalkeeper has missed only one Benfica game, playing 20 matches from the starting to the final whistle. He has eight clean sheets, with 17 conceded goals and two yellow cards. Out of the four tournaments in which the Ukrainian managed to take part, only in the Champions League did he never manage to keep his goal intact.
An interesting detail. In 13 domestic matches in which Anatolii played, Benfica never lost, drawing only three times.
It should be noted that the second part of the 2023/2024 club season has already begun for Trubin and his team. On 6 January, Benfica played an away match in the 16th round of the Portuguese Primera Division against Arouca, winning 3-0, with the Ukrainian playing the full match.
