English Premier League referees will explain VAR decisions to fans during matches starting next season.
According to the Daily Mail, the International Federation of Association Football (IFAB) has allowed officials to explain VAR decisions in Premier League matches following successful trials at club level in Mexico and Portugal. The referees will switch on their microphones and explain their decisions to the crowd after the VAR review. The final decision will be made at the Premier League's general meeting in June.
Previously, a similar system was used in 2023 at the Club World Cup in Morocco, and then the trial was extended to the U-20 Men's World Cup and the Women's World Cup the same year. The IFAB reportedly approved the plans after trials in the Mexican Primera Division and the Portuguese League Cup this month.
