Famous Ukrainian coach Oleg Fedorchuk explained why Metalist 1925 signed Denis Garmash.

Олег Федорчук

- Garmash moved to Metalist 1925. Do you think it was Skrypnyk's wish or just the club president's decision to sign a status player?

- Of course, I would like the coach's opinion to be taken into account, but there have been a lot of strange transfers in Ukrainian football over the last five years. Skrypnyk has never had a player with such a vague position profile as Garmash in any team before. So I will assume that the new management of Metalist 1925 wants to raise the club's status with this signing.

- Will Garmash fit into Skrypnyk's game at Metalist 1925?

- We all know that Skrypnyk is a fan of the diamond. In addition, his teams have very quick transitions from defence to attack. At Zorya, he did it well, but at Vorskla, not so much, because there were few fast midfielders and the pressure was not entirely successful. Garmash is not the kind of player who will give Skrypnyk speed.

In a completely raw team that is just being formed, you need energetic players who can charge and give the game a pace. What is Garmash's motivation now? To prove that he is not a downed pilot? As a rule, shot down pilots very rarely achieve good results.

The signing of Vladlen Yurchenko? They are completely different. Garmash's position is similar to Buyalsky's - a nine who can score, while Yurchenko is a designer, he leads the game and creates more than finishes. Garmash has a good shot, a flair, he thinks quickly. No wonder he played in the national team. But that was ten years ago.

I think Garmash will be a rotation player at Metalist 1925. He could not even prove himself in Osijek, and the Croatian club is definitely not higher in level than Metalist 1925.

- Garmash is an attacking midfielder, but Lucescu and Shovkovskyi used to use him as a forward. What position will he play in Metalist 1925?

- A footballer under 25 can still be taught to play a new position, but later it is difficult. Besides, Garmash hasn't played much in the last 3-4 years. I think he will play in his standard position at Metalist 1925 - an attacking midfielder or a false nine. Denis can decide the moment, he has enough technical skills, but we all know his level of discipline, so it's hard for me to imagine that he will change.

I don't want to compare, but Garmash's transfer to Metalist 1925 is in the category of Milevskyi's transfer to Minaj and Selezniov's transfer to Kolos. My opinion is that players of an age who can break the regime and have no motivation should not have an advantage over young people. As we have seen, within three months Kolos and Minaj expelled Selezniov and Milevskyi.

- Why do you think he failed at Osijek?

- Only in Ukraine are legionnaires given concessions. All over the world, a foreigner has to be a head stronger than a local footballer to play. And this is absolutely logical. If not, then the legionnaires will be criticised by their own fans, just like Yaremchuk in Brugge.

- Is Metalist 1925 the end of Garmash's career or will he still make some noise in the current UPL?

- Garmash's career as a player is definitely not over. He plays cards well, he is a gambler, and this stimulates him. As for his football career, the answer lies on the surface. The man hasn't really played for the last four years.

Garmash's only chance is to show that he has the willpower to become a leader and mentor for young people. Chyzhevskyi was such a player at my time at Tavria. But for this, you need to have character, discipline and motivation. I want to be wrong, but I don't see that in Garmash.

"Metalist 1925 is still searching for itself and cannot motivate players like Garmash. That's why I was surprised by this transition.

- Garmash very often earned sending offs and also played as a forward, so the question arises: what will happen faster - will he score a goal or get a red card?

- Recently, Garmash has rarely received reds, more for talking to the referee. I think his aggression was due to the competition at Dynamo. I'll bet that Denys will score first.
