Twente forward Manfred Ugalde has moved to Spartak Moscow for €15m, which is a club record for the Dutch team. Arnold Bruggink, the club's technical director, commented on the situation.
"Everything is complicated. We wanted Ugalde to move to another club in the summer - from a more interesting championship. We had many conversations with him on the subject. But he said he really wants to go to Spartak. When a player is offered a salary that is many times higher than what he earned with us, there is no chance of keeping him.
Doing business with Russia, of course, is not very pleasant, but, I repeat, the player himself wanted to leave, so it was necessary to look for a solution. Besides, Spartak Moscow are not on the sanctions lists, and the lawyers have found out whether we meet the government's requirements for doing business with Russia. It seems that there are no problems in this aspect," Brugginka is quoted by the official Twente website.
