FIFA is preparing a revolutionary decision on transfers

FIFA wants to start a debate on how to determine the value of football transfers using an algorithm instead of the current practice of clubs negotiating the price of players between themselves.

- "Now more than ever, it is important for us to talk about these and other topics," said FIFA President Gianni Infantino in a speech at the annual legal conference, "For example, let's discuss the possibility of using an algorithm to estimate the value of transfer fees to increase the transparency of the transfer system and help all stakeholders in football.

It is unclear how a transfer fee method approved by world football's governing body would be received by clubs whose selling options would be limited, and how it would comply with competition law in the European Union.
