As the match progressed, the tension on the pitch increased, which led to a series of yellow cards. In the 27th minute, Strasbourg's I. Sissoko received a warning, and in the 30th minute - Paris Saint-Germain's L. Hernandez. The first goal of the match took place on 31 minutes: Kylian Mbappe redeemed himself by scoring the ball into the net and giving his team a deserved advantage. Determined to get back on track, Strasbourg took the lead in the second half. In the 49th minute, Paris Saint-Germain's M. Asensio increased the lead and the home side had a tough time of it. Both managers made a number of substitutions to shake up the game and put fresh energies on the pitch. Strasbourg's M.S. Dion was replaced by E. Emega in the 52nd minute, while J. Mwanga received a yellow card moments later.
Paris Saint-Germain also made their first substitution in the 54th minute, with M. Ugarte coming on in place of Vitinho. In the 63rd minute, Strasbourg passions flared up again when M. Senaya was sent off. However, the hosts did not give up, and in the 68th minute D. Bakwa scored, giving hope to the fans. In the 77th minute, with the game hanging in the balance, Strasbourg's P. Vieira received a yellow card, which added to the drama. Paris Saint-Germain responded with two quick substitutions: Marquinhos was replaced by D. Pereira in the 82nd minute.
