Well-known journalist Serhiy Tyshchenko commented on Serhiy Rebrov's idea to restore the Ukrainian Youth Championship for players under 21.
"I don't like the idea of restoring the Ukrainian youth football championship at all.
While it won't be a problem for Dynamo, Shakhtar, Polissya, Chornomorets, Minaj, Veres, Obolon are counting every penny. An additional 100-400 thousand dollars is a lot of money today.
Many players who are now 19-21 years old left because of the war. We don't have enough players to have a U-21 level.
I don't really understand what 1-2 more years in youth football can do for today's players of Dynamo or Shakhtar's youth teams. Those who are not good enough for the first team should go on loan to try their hand at adult football.
"Benfica, Juventus, Borussia, Ajax, and Barcelona all have second teams. But the trick is that these teams play in lower adult leagues. The main task there is for young players to get used to playing in adult football, not with their peers," Serhii wrote on Telegram.
