Former footballer Nunu Gomes said that he will not participate in the Legends Cup, which will be held in Moscow.
"I have already announced that I will not attend the tournament," Gomes is quoted by the Record publication.
The footballer made the statement following an appeal from the Ukrainian embassy in Portugal, which expressed "deep regret and concern" over Nuno Gomes' trip to Moscow.
"The Embassy of Ukraine expresses its deep regret and concern over the decision of former footballers - Nuno Gomes, Portuguese league ambassador and former Benfica player, and Pedro Mendes - to take part in the Legends Cup." The event, aimed at former national team players, is seen by the embassy as a propaganda manoeuvre by Moscow to achieve political goals on the international stage," the statement said.
