Celta head coach Rafael Benitez spoke about the growing popularity of Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso. The Spanish specialist is one of the favourites to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
"I watched the highlights of the match against Bayern Munich. I also watched several full matches. When he took over the team last season, they had to play a lot of counterattacks. Now their team plays more as a first team, at good speeds and with a lot of quick attacks. He's doing a great job. Xabi has played in teams with good coaches, he's smart and has been able to borrow different things from each of them.
At the moment, there is a lot of talk around Xabi Alonso, but there are many other good coaches who don't get the public's attention as often. Clubs shouldn't choose those who are trending on social media, but based on the characteristics they need, stability and the plan they have for their team's development," The Athletic quoted Benitez as saying.
