According to the source, Brehme died this morning at home in Munich from cardiac arrest. Medics tried to save his life in hospital, but were unable to resuscitate him.

During his playing career, Brehme, who played in the positions of defender and midfielder, played for Bayern Munich, Kaiserslautern, Saarbrücken, Inter and Zaragoza. However, Brehme is primarily known for his winning goal from the penalty spot in the 1990 World Cup final against Argentina.
