Shakhtar Donetsk, which played its Champions League and Europa League matches in Hamburg this season, has decided to move to another German arena for the 2023-2024 European season.
Shakhtar will have a new arena next year. The club's sporting director Sergei Palkin said that in the 2024-2025 season, the Miners plan to host their opponents in another German city, Düsseldorf.
The sporting director did not disclose the reasons for the venue change. He only noted that the experiment with Hamburg worked, as the Volksparkstadion arena had not hosted the Champions League for almost 20 years.
It is worth noting that Düsseldorf has the Merkur Spiel-Arena stadium, which can accommodate 54,600 spectators. The local team Fortuna, like Hamburg, plays in the second Bundesliga.
